Having Conversations is essential to human beings. In ancient times, our ancestors only have the chance to converse with people by face-to-face. However, Nowadays we are lucky that we get the opportunity to talk with others through social media due to the improvement of technology. By the traditional way of conversation, we can observe one’s unique voice, tone, and expression. On the other hands, tThe innovative method enables modern people to break the limitation of distance and jetlag. We can differentiate face-to-face conversations from social media interaction by from threepoints: the convenience of social media, the easiness of expression on social media, and the authenticity of face-to-face conversations.
To begin with, the invention of social media solves the problems of distance, which benefits millions of people in the 21th century. It allows us to contacts people at any place, any time as long as we use Facebook, Line, Twitter, Instagram, and so on. In 1920, people wanted to interact with others, they had to meet others at the same place and same time. If one of them were unable to show up, the meeting had to be cancelled. Thus, social media break the limitation of distance, facilitates the communication, and bring the benefits to us.
In addition, Social social media conversation makes us be accessible toallow us to express our ideas easily everyone. To begin with, fFor introverted students, connecting with others face to face may be a challenge; however, they can talk with netizens comfortably because they don’t have to interact with others directly. Besides, modern people use cellphones on a large scale, almost any time on transportation, at office room, at schools, and so on. Whenever looking at the cellphone, we could get the messages from friends, read the posts from friends, and receive the comments from viewers. To put it in other words, the social media conversation allows us to easier to express out thought and approach to others.
Last, On the other hand, face-to-face conversation leads to a more authentic communication. When talking with a person face-to-face, we could understand one’s emotions by observing his or her face facial expressions, body language, and voice tones. It helps us to build relationships and trust between people. However; we cannot receive the direct response immediately through messages, which makes us misunderstand others’ meanings and moods often. For example, I usually don’t know if my friends are upset or not unless they added emoticons or stickers. Besides, take myself as an example, if I was upset, I didn’t show it on messages because I wanted to be polite. Compared to social media interactions, face-to-face communication could build deeper relationships between people.
Each kind of conversation has its own advantages and bottlenecks. Social Media benefit us by its convenience and approachable to others. Face-to-face conversations allow us to understand a person’s thought by observing his or her facial expression, body language, and facial expressions directly. In my opinion, the best way is to balance the use of two communicating ways. When we want to have a serious, deep talk with our family, we could choose face-to-face conversations. Likewise, when weI have to discuss presentation context with teammate at midnight, I prefer contacting hem through Messenger and Line apps. There’s never a perfect way of contacting with others, we should use the suitable methods at in the appropriate time.
